Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] [Fwd: FW: Old Military Sites Polluted with Asbestos- worse than the Love Canal?] |

Valley schools, built at the former Marion Engineering Depot, a formerly
used defense site in Ohio.
From: TIM ALBRIGHT <timalbright@hotmail.com> Date: Mon, 30 Jun 2008 My wife went to school for eight years on land that had been severly polluted by the Military and she has had health problems all of her life, including immune disorders, migraines, pre-cancer, female and breathing problems, etc. How could the military allow children to attend schools on property that they polluted with heavy metals, TCE's, arsenic, asbestos, etc? How many thousands of students are ticking time bombs? All we ask is 1) That a health registry be established to allow for epidemiological surveys and to distribute educational materials to victms and their doctors. 2) Establish grants or other funding mechanisms to help victims pay for the medical care they need because of the exposure to government-dunped toxins. (Perhaps, the victims should be allowed to file for medical benefits with the VA since they are victims of WWII and the irresponisble actions of our military leaders). Environmental disease is like a mass murder that happens in slow motion. Nobody does anything to prevent it until most of the participants are dead. Many times it is difficult to make direct links. But all decent people would agree that the health of all exposed will suffer in some way based on the maginitude of the pollution. How could the government secretly and possibly criminally store millions of pounds of asbestos in decrepid buildings next to school grounds and sports fields for decades? It may be possible to draw direct links between the asbestos and the diseases that result. The population of students exposed at these schools should be used by the NIH, CDC, EPA, Military, and universities to provide statistical data on the health effects of toxic exposure to chemicals found. We are proud of our son who is starting his second year in the Army. He is stationed at Ft. Bragg. Ironically, he has been trained as a specialist on how to respond to chemical, biological, and nuclear attacks.
