Civic leaders unveil tough measures to protect Laughlin Air Force Base

"You folks are a couple steps ahead of other cities in Texas."  Jesse 
Jack Hereford, San Antonio regional director and Texas outreach director 
for U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, applauded local business leaders and 
elected officials, Wednesday, July 2.

The recently-formed Laughlin Task Force, Hereford, and - all told, 25 
advocates of the Air Force mission here - met at The Bank & Trust 
boardroom, 1200 Veterans Blvd.  Task force members heard and pondered 
bold conclusions of a Joint Land Use Study, orchestrated by Mike Hrapla 
and Celeste Werner, vice presidents of Matrix Design Group.

For more than a year, Hrapla and Werner have worked closely and 
frequently with local civic leaders to craft a body of carefully 
structured action plans and recommendations to examine encroachment and 
compatibility issues that - depending on community action - could 
determine future operations of the 65-year-old Laughlin Air Force Base.
