Cleanup of contaminated soil at former Wyle Laboratories in Norco begins By ALICIA ROBINSON Riverside Press-Enterprise (CA) July 12, 2008A weeklong excavation set to begin Monday will remove a small amount of contaminated soil from the former Wyle Laboratories property in Norco, state officials in charge of the cleanup said. About 105 cubic yards of soil tainted with lead, perchlorate and polychlorinated biphenyls, known as PCBs, will be dug up and trucked to a dumpsite north of Bakersfield, said Rafat Abbasi, senior project manager with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control. The department is overseeing cleanup at Wyle, a 429-acre site where aerospace and defense products were tested for more than 40 years. The lab closed in 2004 but investigations have found varying levels of known or suspected carcinogens on the site. ...
