Town awaits results of Megabase study

NORTH HANOVER - A study to develop a land use plan for Joint Base New 
Jersey - the "Megabase" as it has been dubbed - is aggressively moving 
forward, officials said, and the township is looking forward to the 
economic benefits the site could bring.

Megabase, which will be the only joint Army-Air Force-Navy facility in 
the country, combines the efforts of Fort Dix, McGuire Air Force Base 
and Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station.

Military officials have said each base will retain its services specific 
to its mission, but that combining work at the bases will improve 
efficiency in administration and on military projects.

The Joint Land Use Study, funded by a $300,000 Department of Defense 
planning grant, is a collaborative effort between the department, 
Burlington and Ocean counties and 11 municipalities close to the 
Megabase site. The study will examine development encroachment and 
compatible land uses at the military installations, officials said.
