Navy awards $20 million toward Alameda base clean-up By Peter Hegarty Alameda Journal (CA) August 25, 2008The U.S. Navy will provide $20 million to a company for environmental clean-up at a portion of Alameda Point, including the site of a future golf course. Among the tasks that will be carried out by AMEC - an international engineering and project management company - will be the injection of an "oxidant cocktail" into the groundwater to rapidly and continuously destroy benzene, trichloroethylene and other contaminants. The Navy announced the deal last week.Daniel Chow, an AMEC program manager, said its staff from within and outside California helped develop the proposal put to the Navy. ...
