Laughlin Task Force supports state legislation to protect military bases By Bill Sontag Del Rio Live (TX) September 3, 2008Less than a week from the sound of an opening gavel at a public hearing on Texas military base protection measures, members of the Laughlin Task Force unanimously approved statewide legislation, Wednesday (Sept. 3), designed to safeguard all such installations across the state. In what task force members lauded as a remarkable show of unity among local governments, the business sector and Air Force representatives, two drafts of legislation to protect bases from outside encroachment will be tendered to Rep. Pete P. Gallego (D-District 74, Alpine) and Sen. Carlos Uresti (D-District 19, San Antonio). The most sweeping in scope of the two drafts would enable all local governments across Texas to have municipal and county zoning authority around airports. ...
