Army taking input for final remediation of Grant area

DEVENS -- The Army is soliciting public comment on its proposed remedy plan for the former Grant Housing Area and an adjoining 37mm impact area on the northern slope of Oak Hill in anticipation of making a record of decision for remediation in November.

The public comment period is from Sept. 10 through Oct. 10, said Robert Simeone, Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) environmental coordinator at this month's Restoration Advisory Board meeting.

Hard copies of the proposed plan are available for viewing at the Ayer and Harvard libraries.

The proposed plan summarizes the background and characteristics of the housing and impact area, offers alternative solutions to protect public health and welfare from Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) which at this point are negligible. But there is a potential for residual scrap material, Simeone said.
