What I find interesting is that perchlorate is only ever linked to rocket fuel. Munitions also contain explosives compounds made from 25%+ perchlorate salts. When you consider there are 100,000 UXO off Fort Sheridan, at 4lbs of explosives filler each, this is 50 tons of perchlorate salts sitting near my drinking water intake crib. If the EPA fails to regulate perchlorate then no one will be looking for this in the drinking water when the shells eventually degrade and release their contents. It is even worse in Lake Erie at the Erie Army Depot where there are reported to be 450,000 rounds of perchlorate containing UXO sitting in our fresh water supply. The EPA is making an error by focusing solely on existing levels of perchlorate to the detriment of future levels. Steven B.
