Missile silo contamination being corrected Corps of engineers in process of cleaning up problem By Melanie Wilkinson York News-Times November 13, 2008York, NE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it's in the process of cleaning up the groundwater contamination originating from the former missile silo west of York. Officials from the Corps met with local residents and government officials on Wednesday - to talk about the extent of the contamination, the location of the underground plume and what is being done to fix the problem. The Atlas Missile Site 10, located five miles west of York and just north of Highway 34, was in operation during the 1960s. It was taken out of the government's defense system in 1964. ...
