Meeting Scheduled to Discuss Kirksville Pollution Alex Goff KBIA (Columbia, MO) November 19, 2008COLUMBIA, MO = A public meeting is being held in Kirksville on the 20th to discuss the future of the former Kirksville Air Force Station, which has concerns about groundwater pollution. Engineers recently identified contamination in the soil of the former Kirksville Air Force Station. Army Engineer spokeswoman, Kathy Baker, says the area was probably contaminated in the 1940s and 50s as a result of poor disposal practices at the station.Baker says engineers have followed all the proper procedures and the situation is under control. She says the area of contamination is fairly small. "The only actual persons affected would be the adjacent landowners and the landowners themselves. Right now there is no risk. The only risk to this problem right now is if you would drink the groundwater." ...
