Military resists AVX lawsuit: Witnesses, Air Force deny role in
contamination
Myrtle Beach Sun News TradingMarkets.com December 2, 2008The Air Force wants a federal judge to deny a request that the military be added as a defendant in a class-action lawsuit filed against Myrtle Beach-based AVX Corp., saying there is no evidence the Air Force contributed to toxic groundwater contamination at and near the manufacturer's headquarters. The military, in court documents filed last week, said AVX's attempt to bring the Air Force into the lawsuit is an unmerited delay tactic meant to extend the case by at least a year. The military's court documents also include a declaration by Carol Minsk, a hydrogeologist with the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, who said there is no reason to believe the Air Force played any role in groundwater contaminated with trichloroethylene, also known as TCE. ...
