Smoke from Fort Ord burn fouls air in Highway 68 area By MARIA INES ZAMUDIO The Salinas Californian December 11, 2008Low-hanging smoke from Wednesday's controlled burns on the old Fort Ord drifted into a residential area near Highway 68, harming air quality, officials said. Now, the Monterey Bay Unified Pollution Control District is advising the U.S. Army not to continue burn operations today, said Ed Kendig, spokesman for the Air Pollution Control District. Wednesday's fire burned about 137 acres."We are keeping the fingers crossed that they don't burn tomorrow," Kending said. ...
