Report: Contaminants Found in Fort Meade Water NewsChannel 8 (Washington, DC) February 12, 2009 FORT MEADE, Md.Tests have revealed levels of contaminants on Maryland's Fort Meade Army base, leaving residents there with major health concerns. Across the railroad tracks from Fort Meade resident Christy Shehade's home, is Fort Meade's old landfill. While her four-year-old son Kyle has no worries about the ground he plays on there, his mother now does. More than 200 feet below the ground is a growing level of contaminated water. It's tainted with chemicals some 10 times the maximum level set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The chemicals are known to be toxic and are linked to cancer. ...
