Milford senior housing plan turned down By Frank Juliano Connecticut Post February 22, 2009MILFORD -- U.S. Army officials have rejected the proposal by a city redevelopment agency to build housing for senior citizens on a site to be divested by the Base Area Closure Commission. The 2-acre U.S. Army Reserve vehicle-maintenance facility on Seemans Lane would be transferred to the city for free if military officials approve the new use. Otherwise, it would be sold at fair-market value. The Army Reserve plans to consolidate several of its Connecticut operations, including the Milford unit, at a new site in Middletown, if local permits can be obtained. Alderwoman Judith Toohey, R-2, a member of the local redevelopment agency recommending new uses for the Army garage, said the best solution might also be the simplest one. ...
