Joint Land Use Study stirs anger, debate

Stewart County residents claim Fort Campbell trying to snatch land

Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle (TN)
March 4, 2009

DOVER - The recommendations in a Fort Campbell Joint Land Use Study now go before the Stewart County Commission after the third public hearing on the land buffer plan was held here this week.

Any final commission vote may not be as easy as it seems on the surface.

On one hand, commissioners can accept the recommendations and risk losing their next election by likely angering most of their constituency.

On the other hand, they could deny Fort Campbell's requests, and risk alienating a military installation that has a $2 billion-plus regional economic impact.
