Nature Conservancy Transfers 210 Acres near Whiting Field for Military 
Base Buffer and Hiking Trails

Properties were part of Nature Conservancy's historic multi-state land 
deal with International Paper.

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FLORIDA - The Nature Conservancy announced today the 
transfer of two properties totaling 210 acres adjacent to Whiting Field 
Naval Air Station in Santa Rosa County to the Department of 
Environmental Protection. The conservation of these properties 
represents the work of a broad partnership among state agencies, 
military, local government and private nonprofits to help protect the 
water quality of Clear Creek and buffer Naval Air Station Whiting Field 
against the threat of encroaching development.

"Naval Air Station Whiting Field enjoys a tremendous relationship with 
the State of Florida, Santa Rosa County, and The Nature Conservancy in 
its efforts to foster encroachment partnering initiatives and encourage 
compatible land development around the base," said Captain Enrique 
Sadsad, Commanding Officer, Naval Air Station Whiting Field. "This not 
only helps to maintain the long-term viability of the base, but 
conserves lands for wildlife protection and provides opportunities for 
recreational activities. The recent purchase of 210 acres adjacent to 
the installation is another example of how beneficial these partnerships 
can be to the state, the county and the base."
