LEWISTON: Public officials speak out at LOOW informational workshop. By Amy Wallace Niagara Gazette (NY) March 26, 2009 02:51 pm Now, the public - and officials - can have their say.The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Buffalo District held an informational public workshop - the first of its kind under a new format — Wednesday evening regarding the former Lake Ontario Ordnance Works site at the Lewiston Senior Center. The workshop was intended to allow for feedback from the public and local governmental agencies on the planned soil remediation investigation of the former LOOW Waste Water Treatment Plant site before testing and field work begin. "We are preparing to get more samples from the Waste Water Treatment Plant," Corps Project Manager Bill Kowalewski said. "We are hoping to come away with a better sampling approach (based on feedback)." Kowalewski said the scope of the sampling at the plant would include an evaluation of the nature and extent of potential Department of Defense contamination and an assessment to determine risks to human health and the environment. ...
