PAVE PAWS in the clear on cancer link By K.C. MYERS Cape Cod Times (MA) March 28, 2009BOURNE — The Air Force has published a final report concluding that PAVE PAWS has not caused an abnormally high amount of Ewing's sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, or other illnesses, among nearby residents. The Air Force spent $6.5 million on a series of safety studies between 2001 and 2008, according to a press release from Air Force Space Command, which operates the missile detection center. The studies all ended with the same conclusion reached when the Air Force first opened PAVE PAWS and conducted an environmental impact study in 1979: The missile scanning facility poses no health risk, said Barbara Burnett, community liaison for the 6th Space Warning Squadron. ...
