Meeting set for Navy base plan

The state House Transportation Committee will hold a public hearing 
Thursday to lay out the issues in proposed legislation on the future of 
the Willow Grove Naval Air Station.

Recent bills, introduced by state Sen. Stewart Greenleaf, R-Montgomery, 
and state Rep. Rick Taylor, D-Montgomery, are aimed at ensuring the 
Horsham Joint Interagency Installation, which will replace operations at 
Willow Grove when the Navy leaves in 2011, will be used solely for 
national defense, homeland security and emergency preparedness. The goal 
is to address Horsham's concern that commercial and private cargo 
flights will start using the runway once the state takes over the base.
