Cleanup for ponds near former K-25 plant Josh West WBIR Radio (Knoxville, TN) June 6, 2009A cleanup effort is underway on three ponds near the former K-25 plant in Oak Ridge. The ponds were once used to receive storm drain discharge from the plant, meaning the ponds and the fish living inside them are contaminated. Now, several groups are working hard to restore the ponds and reduce the contamination, in part, by removing their inhabitants. "The larger fish have PCBs in their tissue, so they're a concern for humans and wildlife that eat the fish," said ORNL Environmental Scientist Mark Peterson. "We want to try to minimize those risks." ...
