Jones: Bill blocks OLF in area

US Rep. Walter Jones says an amendment he attached to a defense spending 
bill this week will = if the legislation is adopted by the full House 
and Senate and signed into law by President Obama = successfully block 
the US Navy from building a jet landing field in two area counties.

The amendment to the $672 billion National Defense Authorization Act, 
which Jones, R-N.C., introduced on Wednesday, strips the Navy secretary 
of the ability to build an outlying landing field in either Camden or 
Gates counties.

Specifically, Jones' amendment bars the Navy from "consider(ing) the 
establishment of, or purchas(ing) land, construct(ing) facilities, 
implement(ing) bird management plans, or conduct(ing) any other 
activities that would facilitate the establishment of an OLF at either 
of the proposed sites in North Carolina: Sandbanks or Hale's Lake."
