No weapons-related residue found at San Bernardino site

A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers study says San Bernardino residents don't have to worry about soil or groundwater contamination from a World War II weapons plant at the north end of the city.

The study, performed by Parsons Infrastructure and Technology Group Inc, a Georgia-based company, is part of an ongoing effort by the Army Corps to assess munitions sites throughout the nation.

In 1942, Western Stove Co. contracted with the military to make various types of incendiary bombs and hand grenades. The plant was located at the end of a short railroad spur near Mount Vernon Avenue and 27th Street.
