Soil Clean-up at Tyndall to Take Longer Than Expected WMBB-TV News 13 (Panama City, FL) August 11, 2009 Tyndall AFB, Fla:Additional soil sampling and soil removal necessary to meet state and exceed federal environmental standards at Tyndall Elementary School will require the soil cleanup to take longer than originally projected. In late May, Tyndall’s Environmental Flight collected soil samples in and around the schoolyard as a part of the Military Munitions Response Program. Results of these samples showed potentially hazardous lead levels in certain areas at the school which were above acceptable residential levels. While historic studies conducted in the area had indicated no health hazards associated with these contaminants, Brig. Gen. Darryl Roberson, 325th Fighter Wing Commander, directed, as a precautionary measure, that the schoolyard be cleared of all such contamination. Tyndall Elementary School was constructed on the site of a WWII aerial gunner school training range. ...
