Bombs, shell at Ravenna Arsenal no longer a threat By Bob Downing Akron Beacon Journal August 20, 2009CHARLESTOWN TWP.: The threat from three 500-pound live bombs and a live artillery shell at the now-closed Ravenna Army Ammunition Plant is gone. ...The Ravenna complex produced artillery and mortar shells in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. It closed in 1971. The Army is continuing to clean up sites on the property with explosive and chemical contamination problems. Most of the facility, commonly known as the Ravenna Arsenal, has been turned over to the Ohio Army National Guard for use as a training complex. ...
