County gets grant to study development near MAFB

Cascade County has received a $165,513 federal grant to study 
development around Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls and its 
missile complex spread across nine northcentral Montana counties.

"This is a way to get in front of various land-use issues," said Joe 
Briggs, chairman of the Cascade County Commission.

Development that could clash with current or future Air Force missions 
and military activities that could affect local communities will be 
studied, he said.

The grant came from the U.S. Department of Defense's Joint Land Use 
Study program, which works to limit development that is incompatible 
with military missions.
