Culver Road armory sells for $1.475 million

The World War I-era Culver Road armory was sold at auction for 
$1,475,000 on Tuesday to developer Fred Rainaldi - a Rochester 
businessman known for his Rite Aid developments.

Rainaldi went back and forth with another local development team, 
raising his blue No. 8 bidder card later and later each time in the 
slow-paced auction. Finally - the auctioneer going once, then twice 
-Rainaldi raised his card, and his bid, for the winning price.

The Culver Road facility was the third armory the state sent to auction 
this year and by far the most profitable.

Afterward, Rainaldi did not divulge a plan for the site other than to 
say he wanted to restore the building and any uses would be of a scale 
fitting the neighborhood. No tenants have been lined up, he said, and 
nothing solidified for the remainder of the 11-acre property.
