Letterkenny Army Depot land transfer taking much longer than first planned By JIM HOOK Chambersburg Public Opinion (PA) November 6, 2009The founders of an organization to oversee the reuse of Army land by the Chambersburg community didn't look beyond a decade. Transferring 1,500 acres from Letterkenny Army Depot to a community-operated business park and recreation park wasn't supposed to take too long. It's been more than 13 years. The Base Realignment and Closure Commission gave the order to the Army in 1995, but a complex environmental cleanup has been slow. Less than half the land has changed hands. Under BRAC rules, the military can't transfer real estate until efforts to clean it are started. ...
