New System At KAFB Safeguards Water Supply System Prevents Fuel Leakage Into Nearby Ground KOAT TV-7 News (Albuquerque, NM) December 15, 2009Kirtland Air Force Base broke ground Tuesday on a new system that will stop more fuel from leaking into the ground close to its water supply. Officials at the base said it's a project long overdue.The fuel used to fly fighter planes over the New Mexico skies since the 1950s has been blamed for leaking nearly 2 million gallons of fuel into the ground. A new $10,000,000 fuel storage system hopes to prevent history from reoccurring. ...
