Would MCAS feel impact of development? Editorial Yuma Sun (AZ) December 22, 2009It is possible that city of Yuma voters may eventually vote on whether to allow the development of a large planned community on the south mesa. Opponents of the development, known as Estancia, have turned in petitions to overturn Yuma City Council approval of a land use change for the 3,700 acre project that backers say won't actually materialize for many years in the future. Various objections have been raised to the project, including concerns about destruction of the rural lifestyle in the area and possible infrastructure costs to taxpayers, but the key argument opponents have expressed is that it would endanger Marine Corps Air Station Yuma. ...
