Ingleside council names itself as implementing LRA group
Group hopes to gain federal recognition necessary to get title to Navy land

INGLESIDE — City Council voted 4-3 to name its own members to a new 
implementing redevelopment group that members hope can gain the federal 
recognition necessary to get the title to a parcel of surplus Navy land.

The surplus property, 155 acres of mostly submerged waterfront land, 
will be vacated this spring when the base closes as a result of the 2005 
base closure round. Most of the rest of the base property, 576 acres, is 
being turned over to the Port of Corpus Christi, its previous owner.

Councilman Steve Diehl made the motion to create a group to be known as 
the Ingleside Implementation Local Redevelopment Authority with members 
to be the Ingleside City Council. The motion further directed City 
Manager Jim Gray to send notice to the Navy and the U.S. Office of 
Economic Adjustment asking for the necessary recognition.
