Well retesting finds no contamination By Joe Ruff OMAHA WORLD-HERALD (NE) March 16, 2010Testing of three groundwater monitoring wells indicated possible contamination from a former bomb factory near Mead, Neb., but it appeared to be a false positive and none of the wells produce drinking water, Metropolitan Utilities District officials said Monday. The Nebraska Ordnance Plant was used during World War II and the Korean War, and it was an Atlas missile silo site during the Cold War. Nearby groundwater was contaminated with volatile organic compounds and explosives, the most prevalent being trichloroethylene and RDX, and now the area is a Superfund cleanup site managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. ...
