Portsmouth rezones Navy land for sale Previous regulations were 'too liberal' By Jill Rodrigues EastBayRI.com (RI) March 17, 2010PORTSMOUTH - As the Navy prepares to turn over about 150 acres of land to the private sector, the town has rezoned the area to attract commercial, retail, and marine-trade development. The Portsmouth Redevelopment Agency (PRA), Economic Development Committee (EDC), Planning Board and town planners worked together to develop a redevelopment district zone for the areas known as Tank Farms 1 and 2, located off of Stringham Road, between the Melville Marine District and Melville Campgrounds. Any construction proposals brought to the town would have to fall under one of three planned-unit development regulations: Corporate development, marine trade development, or retail/service development. ...
