Willow Creek Fire burns across river from Rosie Creek homes by Molly Rettig Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (AK) June 24, 2010FAIRBANKS - Smoke from the Willow Creek Fire in the Tanana Flats drifted into Fairbanks on Wednesday as the fire came within a couple of miles of homes in Rosie Creek. The Willow Creek Fire, which was caused by lightning June 10, had burned 1,163 acres on the south side of the Tanana River as of Wednesday afternoon. ...One reason for the air-only attack is that the land, owned by the U.S. Army, is a former bombing range, said Tami DeFries, fire management officer for the Alaska Fire Service Military Zone. ...
