KS land trust adds 6,800 acres By Tim Carpenter Topeka Capital Journal (KS) July 22, 2010Landowner Rod Moyer joined with environmental and military dignitaries Thursday to dedicate the largest conservation easement in the northern Flint Hills of Kansas. The 6,800 expanse of native tallgrass prairie was placed under the permanent protection of the Kansas Land Trust. Addition of the Moyer acreage brings to 42 properties and 15,500 acres statewide contained within the trust's easement domain. ...The land east of Junction City was previously slated to be the site of a 100-turbine wind farm, but the trust agreement shields the property from encroachment of development. The land will remain in private hands, but the scenic views will be reserved for recreational activities and agriculture, primarily cattle grazing. ...
