New Test Checks Water Near KAFB Fuel Leak No Signs Of Jet Fuel Yet Detected In Water Supply KOAT TV-7 News (Albuquerque, NM) August 30, 2010BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. -- Officials with the Bernalillo County Water Authority are concerned about a pocket of fuel 500 feet underground near Kirtland Air Force Base so they're adding a new test to check the water. Several million gallons of jet fuel are sitting on top of the groundwater. The fuel hasn't shown up in drinking water wells, but the Water Authority said it wants to make sure it doesn't. ..."The chemical in question is ethylene dibromide," said David Morris, with Water Authority. Morris said that chemical, also known as EDB, comes from jet fuel, but that same chemical in drinking water is bad news. ...
