3 SOPS removes dam, clears WWII bombing range by Senior Airman Erica Picariello 50th Space Wing Public Affairs U.S. Air Force August 18, 2010NEW BOSTON AIR FORCE STATION, N.H. -- Contractors and members of New Boston Air Force Station, a geographically separated unit of the 50th Space Wing, have pumped approximately 70 million gallons of water out of Joe English Pond during a span of five days. They're not even close to being done.The Joe English Pond and Dam Removal Project, authorized by Congress' 2002 National Defense Authorization Act, funded the clean-up of the retired bombing range allowing it to be used again for recreational purposes. From 2008 to 2009, 135 unexploded ordinances were found within New Boston's fence line. ...
