Dallas Plan Commission defers decision on gas well in Oak Cliff By ROY APPLETON Dallas Morning News September 17, 2010 Alarms have sounded. Now what about those wells?That will be a question before the Dallas Plan Commission Oct. 21, when it again addresses a request to drill what would be the city's first natural gas well. XTO Energy is seeking a specific-use permit to drill and produce gas from ultimately 12 wells at a four-acre site it leases from the city in far west Oak Cliff. ...Army Col. Jeff Long and Lt. Col. Jim Hardy told commissioners they don't oppose drilling, just this project at Hensley Field, the former Dallas Naval Air Station. Their Texas Army National Guard detachment trains pilots of the Singapore Air Force near the proposed drilling site. The protrusion of rigs is a flight safety concern, they said. Earlier, Long said bright lights at the site would impede training with night-vision goggles. ...
