County officially buries Yuba Highlands project By Ben van der Meer Marysville Appeal-Democrat (CA) January 11, 2011Yuba Highlands was formally, and perhaps permanently, sunk when Yuba County supervisors voted Tuesday to end a development agreement for the controversial project. A community barbecue looks to be the only activity in the near future for the 2,500-acre property, which at one time was slated for hundreds of homes but never gained much favor from county residents. "It was a bold plan at the time," said Kevin Mallen, the county's director of community development and services, in his board presentation. "Things have changed since then." The county's two actions, to end the development agreement and also let the property owner pay off associated bonds, clear the way for the land to eventually become conserved open space under the oversight of nearby Beale Air Force Base and the state. ...
