Environmental report details contamination at former South Weymouth  
Naval Air Station

Water, land contamination remains in Weymouth

WEYMOUTH - A report commissioned by a citizens advocacy group  
concludes that some of the land and groundwater are still far from  
safe at the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station.
The former base, a Superfund site, has been undergoing years of cleanup.

“The concentrations of contaminants remaining in groundwater far  
exceed levels that would be safe for drinking water consumption,” the  
report states.

The citizens group, formed in 2009 with members from Rockland,  
Abington, Weymouth and Hingham, says the report defines in easy-to- 
read language some of the environmental problems.
