MWD: Major Flaws Found In Groundwater Model Massapequan Observer (NY) April 22, 2011After over a decade of hard work and persistence by the Massapequa Water District (MWD), federal experts have concluded that the heavily relied upon Grumman-Navy groundwater model is inadequate. According to MWD officials, this computer model has been used by the NYSDEC, Grumman and the U.S. Navy to minimize and downplay the severe impact that the toxic Grumman-Navy groundwater plume will have on the over 25 public supply wells in the path of the contamination. Collectively these wells supply vital drinking water to over 160,000 Nassau County residents. All nine supply wells operated by MWD are also in the path of the plume and provide potable water to its 43,000 residents. ...
