Harbor files suit asking for damages from BLRA's sale of adjoining
area to Port Authority for use as a container port
By CHARLES HACK JERSEY JOURNAL (NJ) April 20, 2011By now, luxury condos were supposed to be rising at the northwestern end of the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor. Instead, there's weeds, wildlife, and trash at the old military base. Six years ago, the developers Fidelco Bayonne Realty of Millburn and Roseland/Bayonne of Short Hills signed a development agreement with the Bayonne Local Redevelopment Authority to build 447 residential units and retail space on 47 acres of the 201-acre site dubbed Harbor Station. But in a lawsuit filed last month in Hudson County Superior Court the developers claim that the BLRA crushed any possibility of them building an upscale, mixed development community when on Aug. 3, 2010 the agency sold 131 adjacent acres to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to be used for a container port. ...
