Residents question Cheyenne missile site cleanup project By JOAN BARRON Casper Star-Tribune (WY) June 9, 2011CHEYENNE - Members of an advisory board for an abandoned missile site cleanup had a number of questions about a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers pilot project Tuesday evening. The corps intends to intercept water contaminated by trichloroethene midway in the 12- to 15-mile underground plume west of Cheyenne, pump it out and treat it. The treated water will be pumped into a 30-feet-by-6-feet trench with a French drain to soak into the same aquifer from which it came. During the lively two-hour meeting at Laramie County Community College, several residents of the affected area, who are members of the Restoration Advisory Board for the Belvoir Ranch Cleanup Project, said they were concerned that groundwater will be lost during the infiltration test. They suggested reinjecting the treated water rather than relying on gravity. ...
