Funding for Hangar One cut from 2012 budget By Diana Samuels Palo Alto Daily News (CA) July 13, 2011Once stripped of its toxic siding, Moffett Field's Hangar One may remain a skeletal structure exposed to the elements for years to come until federal funds are found to cover it up again. Preservationists suffered a serious setback Wednesday when the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee approved a 2012 funding bill for NASA that omits $32.8 million previously allocated to replace the iconic hangar's siding. A Navy contractor has been removing its roof and walls. Without the funding, "there's a chance (the hangar) will sit as an empty carcass for years until somebody figures out what to do," said Lenny Siegel, a member of the Moffett Field Restoration Advisory Board. ...
