Contaminant found in Duncan water wells
Water well contamination on the north side of Duncan is causing  
concern, drawing attention from Erin Brockovich and others

DUNCAN - Amy Calloway wonders how long her family will need to stay  
in a hotel where the water is safe. She worries even more if her  
grandson who swam in the family pool and drank their well water will  
develop normally.

Her neighbor, Russell Wilkerson, wonders whether his wife's  
parathyroid disease could be traced back to years of drinking their  
contaminated well water. Like some of their neighbors, they use  
spring water hauled in by Halliburton for drinking and cooking, while  
trying to avoid the well water they've used for decades.

Erin Brockovich, who became a movie legend for discovering evidence  
of a carcinogen in groundwater in a California town, returned to Los  
Angeles on Wednesday after meeting Tuesday night with about 400  
residents here concerned about the ammonium perchlorate discovered in  
their water.
