U.S. spent more than $3 million on Agent Orange claim, found nothing By ASHLEY ROWLAND Stars and Stripes January 6, 2012SEOUL - The U.S. military spent between $3 million and $4 million last year investigating a former soldier’s claims that he helped bury Agent Orange at a base in South Korea more than three decades ago. But after eight months of intensive research - from high-tech soil and water sampling and interviews of nearly 200 people in the U.S. and South Korea - a team of U.S. and South Korean experts found no evidence of the Vietnam-era defoliant. Despite the high price tag of the investigation, U.S. military officials say the effort was necessary and served a critical purpose: proving that regardless of what might have happened in the ‘70s, the area around Camp Carroll is now safe. ...
