Hurricane Sandy prompts state agency to accelerate sale of historic
Fort Monmouth homes
By Rob Spahr Newark Star-Ledger (NJ) December 13, 2012EATONTOWN - Citing an "acute need for housing" created by Hurricane Sandy, the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority, or FMERA, approved a resolution Wednesday night to make a permanent housing site on the former military base available for purchase. The Oceanport site features 120 housing units that are a mixture of single-family and multi-family homes, and are located in an area of the Fort’s Historic District. In 2009, the U.S. Army agreed to nominate this district for listing on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places. The housing consists of the former non-commissioned officer residences on Gosselin Avenue and the officer family housing units on Russel, Carty and Allen Avenues, the latter of which range from 3,000 to more than 6,000 square feet. ...
