Air Force considers toxic cleanup options at George Air Force Base Jim E. Winburn Victorville Daily Press (CA) August 12, 2013VICTORVILLE - The U.S. Air Force is presenting plans to clean up hazardous waste at the former George Air Force Base and will gather community input for its final decision at a public meeting Wednesday. There are a total of five contaminated sites at the former base, now Southern California Logistics Airport, including two sites where soil is contaminated by solvents and three former skeet ranges. One potentially problematic site, a fire training area, is contaminated with fuels and other flammable chemicals that have seeped into the soil, covering about 16 acres. The site is now "beneath the intersection of an active runway and taxiway" at SCLA, according to an Air Force news release. ...
