[FInally! - LS] Depot's phasing out of toxic chemical a costly replacement by Tim Steere Anniston Star (AL) June 16, 2014 A recent discontinuation of a certain chemical at the Anniston Army Depot rendered the area just a bit greener. The decision to end the use of the industrial degreaser trichloroethylene, commonly known as TCE, comes as many industrial operations nationwide have decreased their use of the chemical over the last few decades in light of heightened concerns over the chemical’s high toxicity. Despite the effectiveness and affordability of TCE, the chemical comes with a number of health-related concerns. There are areas of the depot where the ground has been contaminated with TCE.
