So far, contamination testing only at old Kingman gunnery
If soil cleanup is needed at World War II site, more funding necessary

KINGMAN - The next phase in the ongoing cleanup of the former  
military skeet ranges just outside of Kingman is slated to begin next  
month with an investigation and study of approximately 284  
residential properties through October 2016.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers presented their plan at Mohave  
Community College Tuesday evening.

"We're moving into a new phase of the project," said Daniel Calderon,  
senior public affairs specialist for the Corps of Engineers.

The 15 skeet ranges were once part of the Kingman Ground-to-Ground  
Gunnery Range. They were used extensively for training during World  
War II, and more than 36,000 soldiers trained there between 1943 and  
1946. Soldiers would start on the skeet ranges shooting clay targets  
before working their way up to shooting out of B-17s and other bombers.
