Erin Brockovich, law firm announce they'll investigate tainted water around bases

Weitz & Luxenberg, a New York City law firm specializing in toxic exposure cases and associated with consumer advocate Erin Brockovich, confirmed Tuesday that it's investigating the well contamination in Bucks and Montgomery counties that is believed to have originated at three nearby military bases.

Brockovich, who was made famous by a movie made in 2000 that chronicled her involvement in a successful contaminated water lawsuit, was quoted in a release from the firm.
“It is time to give this community a voice and make sure those responsible are held accountable for this issue,” said Brockovich, who's a spokeswoman for the firm and not an attorney.

The contamination involves unregulated chemicals perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), which are found in the firefighting foams used at military bases across the country since the 1970s. Locally, the bases are the former Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Horsham, the active Horsham Air Guard Station and the former Naval Air Warfare Center in Warminster.
